Betty Gaby Millán Salazar (Steering commitee member)

Biologist with many years experience in palm research. She is co-author of six new species in the genus Astrocaryum, and has made more than 600 collections of palms. She has extensive field experience from rainforest, mountain forest and Amazon basin of Peru. She heads the Department of Gymnosperms and Monocots of the Herbarium San Marcos (USM), where she directs the research and teaches various courses. She is a CITES’ scientific authority.

Joaquina Albán Castillo

Biologist who heads the Department of Ethno-botany and Economic Botany of the Natural History Museum Herbarium. She has studied medicinal plants in many parts of Peru, and participated in research projects involving various ethnic groups in the montane and lowland rain forests of Peru, in particular the Aguaruna, Shipibo-Conibo, Nahua, Ashaninga y Amahuaca.
