Danish Institute for International Studies

1. Department. The Danish Centre for International Studies and Human Rights (DCISM) was established January 2003. DCISM consists of two institutes: 1. Danish Institute for International Studies, DIIS; Research and analysis activities at DIIS are organized into 10 research units of which one is the Natural resource and poverty unit. DIIS has a total staff of 80 employees (full-time eqv.), of whom app. 60 are research staff, and has an annual budget of app. EUR 9.5 mill. 2. Danish Institute for Human Rights, DIHR has an annual budget of app. EUR 12 mill. and has a total staff of 85 employees (full-time eqv.). The total costs of rent, administration and library are app. EUR 4.5 mill.

2. Expertise. Research, analysis, and information activities in Denmark concerning international affairs, i.e., the fields of foreign, security, and development policy; conflict; holocaust; genocide and political mass murders; and human rights in Denmark and abroad.

3. Main contributions of the team to the project: The DCISM team will participate in the projects WP 4 - Small Industries and Trade Based on Palm ProductsWP 5 - Sustainability and management of resources and WP 6 - Policies and sustainable use and management where it will contribute socio-economic expertise to the design of research methodologies and take part in the statistical analysis and publication of socio-economic aspects of the work on palm uses, palm trade and policy issues related to management and trade of palm products.

 

By the end of 2012 the Danish Centre for international Studies and Human Rights has been closed. As of 1st January 2013 the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) have been established as two independent institutions where DIIS is a participating institution in PALMS.
